Bio:

Papel Amate Otomi de Mexico is a family business created 25 years ago, by Cirila Trejo Gonzalez (wife) and Julio Laja Chichicaxtle. They started to sell Amate Paper and after 10 years they started selling handmade embroidered tablecloths. Working both together with the assistance of their two children. It is a collective process that has been passed down from generations. The crafts were taught to us by our grandmothers because they are the ones who embroidered in the community and made their own clothes, as for the designs they are influenced by nature. It is the main source of work in the town and for a future, the youth of today continue to work because they are taught since childhood that this craft comes from the pre-Hispanic era and they themselves make their own feedback and they are born with the idea of continuing with their culture.
