Yolopopotli/ Martha Patricia García Aguilar

How to purchase: Popotillo Arte Yolopopotli

Bio: Martha Patricia García Aguilar learned this art form at a very young age. She recalls being ten years old when she first started to create Yolopopotli. She has been practicing this particular technique for 50 years and she learned it from her mother. Yolopopotli is a family tradition that has been passed down for 3 generations and works together as a team. This art originated from the similarity with feather art, and they believe precision and love of work is the main thing to carry out this craft. The materials used all come from nature and give life to endless forms that they as artisans wish to express in each unique piece. Nowadays there are very few traditional artisans who work this art. However, it is a technique that deserves to be extended and cared for as the Popular Art and Culture of Mexico. They are very grateful and happy because they have been recognized and awarded nationally and internationally for their work. Yolopopotli shares that they live for this noble work and vision of creating artwork with our hands.
