Bio:

Anyieth D'Awol envisioned an organization committed to the economic empowerment of South Sudanese women and communities through the preservation of tradition-based arts and crafts.  Her vision was to have a centre where women from different tribes would come together, work under one roof and exchange ideas and techniques.

The ROOTS PROJECT, a South Sudanese NGO founded by Anyieth D'Awol in 2009, provides a merit based, non-discriminatory safe environment for women in South Sudan.  The PROJECT provides all materials for the crafts and promotes and markets the finished products locally and abroad.  The women are paid for the product they produce.  As part of the integrated services, the PROJECT also provides literacy and math classes, childcare, healthy meals for women and their children, as well as transportation, legal support, and emergency funding for healthcare, as needed.  In this time of the pandemic it also provides food packets to the women to limit their exposure to the local food markets.
